You swim in Guman reservoir at Jirisan Lake Park, ride a flat 180 km route beside Jirisan Mountain and the Sumjingang River through the Jirisan hotspring village, then run a hilly 42.2 km course beside the Seosicheon stream through farmland with the mountain in view. The organiser's own course page calls the bike flat and the run hilly, a direct contrast that decides the day: whatever the flat bike lets you get away with, the hilly run makes you answer for.

Swim
A reservoir swim with clear water and no current gives the most predictable start of the day. There is nothing to fight here, so settle into rhythm rather than racing the flat water.
Bike
The route runs beside Jirisan Mountain and the Sumjingang River on largely flat, controlled roads. Flat terrain hides a power number that is quietly too high, and this is where that number gets set.
Passing the Jirisan hotspring village and into the dense forest air, the flat terrain continues to offer no natural check on effort. Hold the number you set, not the one the road allows.
The final riverside stretch back toward transition is where a flat course's real cost shows up, on the run still to come rather than here. Protect the run by respecting the ceiling to the line.
Run
The organiser labels this run hilly, a direct contrast to the flat bike. Start conservatively: the terrain, not the pace you feel capable of, sets the honest early effort.
Running beside the Seosicheon stream through farmland mixes flatter stretches with real climbing. Use the flat sections to recover, and keep the same discipline on every rise.
If the flat bike was ridden to the road rather than to a plan, this is where the hills expose it. Manage the effort you actually have rather than the one you hoped for.
The closing kilometres carry the same farmland and mountain views back toward the finish. If the bike stayed honest, this is where a hilly run still pays off.

Confidence is built from four inputs
It starts with the targets in your Race Card, then samples the parts of a full distance that vary: open-water pace, transitions, bike speed at the planned power, and the drop in run performance after the swim and bike. Repeating that calculation produces a likely range rather than a single heroic number.
The current time calculation uses this race’s published distances, or standard full distance distances where none are published, with the available course headings, elevation and exposure evidence. Weather scenarios vary temperature, dew point, wind, gusts, rain and water conditions together. Unknown route detail stays visible as uncertainty rather than false precision.
It is not predicting your exact finishing time, placing, or race-day weather. It answers a narrower question: given the plan and the information we have, what range of day is plausible, and where is the uncertainty coming from?
Confidence is not a permanent “low”. It is recalculated across four separate inputs:
