Training plans/Half Distance / 70.3

Self-guided race preparation

Half Distance / 70.3

Half distance is where bike pacing starts to shape the run before the run even begins. This 22-week family builds specifically toward 1.9km of swimming, 90km on the bike and a half marathon, with separate levels rather than one generic long-course schedule.

For athletes building around the 90km bike

Choose Half Distance / 70.3 when the goal is to prepare for the full swim-bike-run demands of this distance, not simply stretch an Olympic plan. Beginner, Intermediate and Advanced collections let you choose the progression from your existing experience while keeping the target distance fixed.

The standard plans run for 22 weeks. This family also has separate 15-week time-crunched collections at Beginner, Intermediate and Advanced, so athletes who need the compressed build do not have to use a different race-distance collection to get it.

Choose your level

Select the starting point that reflects your experience at this distance. TrainingPeaks contains the complete schedule and session guidance.

Same approach. Fewer hours each week.

These follow the same training principles as the standard build, concentrated into fewer weekly hours, not just fewer weeks. Key race-specific and durability sessions stay; low-value volume goes.

What the structure protects

01Swim, bike, run and strength developed as one programme

02Race execution rehearsed before race week

03Clear progression instead of disconnected hard sessions

Need the plan to change with you?

A fixed plan works best when your week is broadly predictable. Coaching is the better fit when work, recovery or ambition requires regular judgement.
