Add only the evidence you have. Every control changes a discipline range, its uncertainty, or an execution-risk explanation.

Swim evidence

Replaces the broad pool-to-open-water assumption.

Bike and equipment

These replace broad mass, aerodynamics, tyre, and power-to-speed assumptions.

Run evidence

A recent effort and honest durability/acclimation answers refine the post-bike run.

Race execution

Transition proficiency changes the T1/T2 range and how wet conditions are treated.

What Oman actually gives you

You swim at Qurum Beach, rated the 3rd best swim in the EMEA region, in crystal-clear water, ride a rolling 180 km out-and-back through the historic streets of Muttrah and beyond Muscat's skyline to Barka, then run a fast, flat course past the city's iconic landmarks to the finish. The swim and bike offer genuine scenery on a moderately demanding route; the run offers speed with nothing to hide behind as Gulf heat, averaging near 28C, builds through the morning.

Qurum Beach, rated 3rd best swim in the EMEA region by the organiser

A crystal-clear, organiser-rated top-three EMEA swim at Qurum Beach gives a genuinely scenic, low-technicality opening to the day.

Setting
from Qurum Beach through the historic streets of Muttrah, beyond Muscat's skyline, out to Barka and back

A rolling coastal out-and-back through Muttrah's historic streets and Muscat's skyline to Barka mixes speed and scenery, with the terrain itself asking for real pacing discipline.

past Muscat's iconic landmarks and coastal views

A fast, flat run past Muscat's landmarks removes terrain as an excuse, so managing Gulf heat as it builds is what actually decides the leg.

Where these course facts come from

These facts come from the organiser’s latest published material: swim, 2026 current route; bike, 2026 current route; run, 2026 current route. They describe the character of the course. They do not confirm the final 2026 route.

How I’d want you to race it

One job for each part of this course. The distance markers tell you when the job changes. The course tells you why.

Swim

A top-rated, low-drama swim

  1. 0–3800 m

    Qurum Beach

Enjoy a genuinely top-rated swim without racing it

Crystal-clear water and a scenic backdrop make this one of the region's best-rated swims. Settle into a sustainable rhythm rather than pushing a course that rewards patience just as much as speed.

    • Settle by 400 m
    • Hold a controlled, repeatable effort

Bike

Rolling and scenic, out to Barka and back

  1. 0 km60 km

    Out through Muttrah

Set a ceiling through the historic streets

Leaving Qurum Beach through Muttrah's historic streets and past Muscat's skyline, the rolling terrain and scenery both invite a harder effort than planned. Set the number you intend to hold to Barka and back.

    • Cap power on every roll
    • Fuel early while conditions are coolest
  2. 60 km120 km

    To the Barka turnaround

Hold the ceiling to the far point

Reaching Barka marks the turnaround. Whatever pace got you out should be the pace that brings you back, not a number inflated by a tailwind or the scenery.

    • Reassess at the turnaround
    • Stay on the fuelling schedule
  3. 120 km180 km

    Back to Qurum Beach

Finish the rolling return still owing the run nothing

The return leg repeats the same rolling terrain in building heat. Protect the run by holding your number rather than chasing time back.

    • Finish nutrition before T2
    • Recheck power against the heat, not just the terrain

Run

Fast terrain, real heat

  1. 0 km10.55 km

    Past the early landmarks

    Don't chase a fast course's natural pace

A genuinely fast, flat run course past Muscat's landmarks invites goal pace immediately. Gulf heat, already building, makes that a mistake here more than most places.

    • Hold opening pace for 5 km
    • Take aid at every station from the start
  2. 10.55 km21.1 km

    Mid-run landmarks

Use the landmarks as honest pacing checks

Passing more of the city's landmarks and coastal views, reassess pace against how the heat actually feels, not against the course's reputation for speed.

    • Reassess goal pace against the heat
    • Cool at every opportunity
  3. 21.1 km31.65 km

    Managing the heat

    Protect core temperature over splits

This is where a fast course and rising Gulf heat combine to punish an early pacing mistake. Manage the effort you actually have.

    • Use ice or cold sponges if offered
    • Keep drinking on schedule
  4. 31.65 km42.2 km

    To the finish

Spend what honest heat management left you

The closing kilometres reward a day paced to the Gulf heat rather than against it, on a course fast enough to make that pay off.

    • Decide the finish honestly
    • Keep cooling even in the final kilometres

What I would keep an eye on

There is no useful 2026 forecast this far out. For now, past race dates give us a point of reference. Closer to the race, the forecast will tell us whether the plan needs changing.

What goes into your range

Your CSS, FTP, weight and run threshold create the first range. Open-water, bike, run and execution evidence can replace broad assumptions. Course data and the historical conditions baseline shape every simulation.

Confidence is built from four inputs

Athlete evidence

Bike setup
Builds with equipment, mass, aero and tyre detail
Course evidence

Race-week conditions
Historical baseline until a forecast is useful
How the model works

It starts with the targets in your Race Card, then samples the parts of a full distance that vary: open-water pace, transitions, bike speed at the planned power, and the drop in run performance after the swim and bike. Repeating that calculation produces a likely range rather than a single heroic number.

The current time calculation uses this race’s published distances, or standard full distance distances where none are published, with the available course headings, elevation and exposure evidence. Weather scenarios vary temperature, dew point, wind, gusts, rain and water conditions together. Unknown route detail stays visible as uncertainty rather than false precision.

It is not predicting your exact finishing time, placing, or race-day weather. It answers a narrower question: given the plan and the information we have, what range of day is plausible, and where is the uncertainty coming from?

Confidence is not a permanent “low”. It is recalculated across four separate inputs:

  • Your evidence: consistent inputs and recent race-like swim, bike, and run results.
  • Bike setup: measured or specified aerodynamics rather than a broad prior.
  • The course: verified distance and route character, including elevation and technical sections.
  • The conditions: a current forecast is more useful than a historical comparison.

It starts low when those inputs are broad. It can become moderate or high as the evidence improves. A narrower range means better information, not a guarantee.

If Oman is your race

Your range is built on today’s numbers. The months of training before race day decide what those numbers become.
