IRONMAN 70.3 Valdivia.
Race Valdivia on your terms.

Valdivia is a river city, and the Calle-Calle is where this half-distance race begins. Bridges and avenues await on the run, but the countryside bike sits between them. This is a day for measured effort rather than trying to win every crossing.

What could you race?

I’m Tom, the coach behind Sense Endurance Coaching. Tell me where you are now and I’ll show you what a strong day in Valdivia could look like.

Let’s build your race

Let’s build your race.

Your age and race category help me estimate where that performance could place you. They don’t determine how fast I think you can race.

Change units

From the river to the bridges, keep something back.

Begin in the Calle-Calle River, ride 90 km through the Los Ríos region and return for a half marathon that crosses Valdivia's bridges and historic streets. There is plenty of atmosphere here without borrowing the 180 km bike course from the full IRONMAN. The half has its own race to execute.

Calle-Calle River

Choose stroke rhythm over apparent current-assisted speed

The Calle-Calle setting can make speed over the riverbank misleading. Sight for the marked course and judge the opening by stroke rhythm, not assumed help from a current.

Sight on Calle-Calle. Do not bank assumed current.

Los Ríos countryside, first bike stage

Find your sustainable road effort

Out in the Los Ríos countryside, resist treating the first clear road as a place to bank time. You still have a half marathon across Valdivia's city bridges.

Ride the countryside steadily. Leave energy for bridges.

Los Ríos countryside, bike return

Keep the feeding plan active

As the ride returns towards Valdivia, take care of food and drink before the waterfront gets your attention. Arrive ready to change pace, not rescue energy.

Keep the feed schedule. Prepare for T2.

Valdivia's city bridges, first run stage

Run within yourself before the crossings accumulate

Valdivia's bridge crossings call for steady effort more than a fixed number on your watch. Let the first run section settle before pressing on.

Run by effort on crossings. Stay relaxed.

Valdivia historic avenues, closing run

Build only when the final city stretch is yours to run

Back through the historic city avenues, keep the final acceleration for the kilometres where your form still holds. The river-city finish should be earned patiently.

Watch form in town. Build after the bridges.

What to check in race week

Get the labelled 2026 70.3 swim, bike and run diagrams, not the full-distance Valdivia maps. Confirm which way the river swims, the transition locations and the actual 90 km route, bridge crossings, run aid and wave times. The course layout establishes the broad setting but not every turn.

Build the legs.
Practise the decisions.

A finish range gives you something to work towards. The preparation is specific to this race: river swimming, an economical regional ride and composed running through the city bridges are practised as one continuous race.

I’m Tom. With Sense Endurance Coaching, I’ll build that preparation around your life, follow how you respond and adjust the work as you get closer to Valdivia.
