IRONMAN 70.3 San Salvador.
Your best day in San Salvador.

San Salvador takes you from the water of Lago de Ilopango to a Pan-American Highway ride, then into the historic city centre. The highway may be the fastest-looking part. It is also where you decide how much of a half marathon you get to run.

What could you race?

I’m Tom, the coach behind Sense Endurance Coaching. Tell me where you are now and I’ll show you what a strong day in San Salvador could look like.

Let’s build your race

Let’s build your race.

Your age and race category help me estimate where that performance could place you. They don’t determine how fast I think you can race.

The Pan-American Highway shouldn't take the old town away.

Lago de Ilopango offers a memorable swim start before a long ride on the Pan-American Highway and a run into San Salvador's historic centre. That road is an inviting place to chase speed. Keep it an even effort, because the last kilometres through the city deserve good legs. The precise 2027 turns are still pending.

Lago de Ilopango, previous lake start

Swim calmly before the road opens

The calm lake swim rewards an honest, controlled opening.

Seed honestly. Settle into rhythm.

Carretera Panamericana, outbound bike

Let speed build without forcing power

Use the first highway lap to find a climbing effort you can repeat on lap two.

Cap opening effort. Fuel early.

Pan-American Highway, return section

Keep eating through the final cycling kilometres

Finish planned nutrition and hold effort before the urban run.

Stay patient. Finish planned nutrition.

Centro Histórico de San Salvador, run start

Allow your stride to become steady in town

Let the urban opening feel easy, not fast.

Easy first aid station. Check posture.

Historic centre finish, exact 2027 route pending

Spend the last effort only after a controlled first half

Only progress once the first half has held together.

Stay tall. Choose the last move late.

What to check in race week

Check the February 2027 Lago de Ilopango swim entry, highway turnarounds and historic-city run laps. Existing accounts disagree on some bike and run loop counts, so use the final half-distance map for transitions, aid and pacing landmarks.

Build the legs.
Practise the decisions.

A finish range gives you something to work towards. The preparation is specific to this race: a quiet lake start, honest highway watts and composed historic-centre running are practised before the excitement of the city finish.

I’m Tom. With Sense Endurance Coaching, I’ll build that preparation around your life, follow how you respond and adjust the work as you get closer to San Salvador.
