IRONMAN 70.3 Barranquilla.
Race Barranquilla on your terms.

Barranquilla promises a race from Puerto Mocho's coast towards city roads and the Gran Malecón. The waterfront is a convincing reason to enter. But the 2027 start and course are not yet settled, so this is a place to imagine racing, not a turn-by-turn plan to memorise.

What could you race?

I’m Tom, the coach behind Sense Endurance Coaching. Tell me where you are now and I’ll show you what a strong day in Barranquilla could look like.

Let’s build your race

Let’s build your race.

Your age and race category help me estimate where that performance could place you. They don’t determine how fast I think you can race.

Change units

Race the coastal road you can prove, not the one you remember.

Puerto Mocho's open-water start, a fast-looking Circunvalar de la Prosperidad and the Gran Malecón would make for a memorable progression from beach to city. Those remain proposed 2027 settings, not settled course instructions. Prepare to swim with composure, hold your limit on the highway and begin the waterfront run with something left.

Puerto Mocho Beach, proposed swim

Keep early open-water effort controlled

If Puerto Mocho remains the swim start, establish your line in open water before pursuing a split. A proposed 2027 route is not a reason to rush the first strokes.

Find a steady swim line. Swim inside yourself.

Circunvalar de la Prosperidad, proposed bike

Hold back on the open highway

The suggested Circunvalar de la Prosperidad bike setting looks made for steady power. On that highway, keep the first half within your planned effort.

Set bike effort early. Avoid first-half surges.

Barranquilla bike route, return still to be mapped

Arrive ready for warm-weather running

If the bike returns along the proposed corridor, use the later kilometres to finish fuelling. Arrive at the Gran Malecón run able to manage the warm city air.

Finish your bike nutrition. Prepare for waterfront heat.

Gran Malecón, opening half marathon

Let the first kilometre be comfortable

On the proposed Gran Malecón run, keep the opening pace comfortable despite the waterfront atmosphere. Check breathing and take on fluids before the heat builds.

Start the run gently. Cool at aid points.

Gran Malecón, closing half marathon

Use the remaining strength deliberately

Along the Malecón, protect your stride when the effort gets difficult. Make any late acceleration a response to how you feel, not to the view.

Keep running tall. Spend the effort late.

What to check in race week

Resolve the advertised 4 April 2027 date with current IRONMAN registration because the organiser FAQ still shows a June 2026 event. Check the final Puerto Mocho swim buoys, highway closures and loop counts, Gran Malecón run turns, transitions and aid points. Use the confirmed route, not a proposed coastal outline, when you choose split landmarks.

Make your finish prediction and I can send this plan to you in race week.

Build the legs.
Practise the decisions.

A finish range gives you something to work towards. The preparation is specific to this race: sea swimming, controlled highway riding and steady waterfront running are practised before the route's final urban details are known.

I’m Tom. With Sense Endurance Coaching, I’ll build that preparation around your life, follow how you respond and adjust the work as you get closer to Barranquilla.
