Add only the evidence you have. Every control changes a discipline range, its uncertainty, or an execution-risk explanation.

Swim evidence

Replaces the broad pool-to-open-water assumption.

Bike and equipment

These replace broad mass, aerodynamics, tyre, and power-to-speed assumptions.

Run evidence

A recent effort and honest durability/acclimation answers refine the post-bike run.

Race execution

Transition proficiency changes the T1/T2 range and how wet conditions are treated.

What Almere-Amsterdam actually gives you

You swim one calm loop of the Weerwater by Almere's Kunstlinie theatre, ride a single flat polder loop below sea level, then run two laps past the lake and through a city centre that Challenge Family calls one of the sport's great crowds. Nothing about the terrain will slow you down. The wind on the bike and the noise on the run are what decide whether that turns into a good day.

A sheltered city lake removes open-water exposure; a single counterclockwise loop keeps navigation simple.

Flat Polder Roads

Layout

Flevoland's polders, below sea level

Flat, below-sea-level polder terrain removes climbing cost entirely, so wind on the open roads becomes the whole variable.

Flat City and Lakeside

Almere's city centre and the Weerwater

Low technical demand and a flat lakeside/city loop favour rhythm; a large, vocal crowd through the centre can easily pull pace off plan.

Where these course facts come from

These facts come from the organiser’s latest published material: swim, current course description; bike, current course description; run, current course description. They describe the character of the course. They do not confirm the final 2027 route.

How I’d want you to race it

One job for each part of this course. The distance markers tell you when the job changes. The course tells you why.

Swim

Keep the calm water calm

  1. 0–1900 m

    One loop of the Weerwater

Use the sheltered water to find rhythm early

A single counterclockwise loop in calm city water gives you a straightforward swim. Settle into your pace early and use the clean sighting lines rather than the field around you to hold it.

    • Settle by 300 m
    • Sight off the buoy line, not other swimmers

Bike

Ride the wind, not the reputation

  1. 0 km30 km

    Out onto the polder

Get organised before the open roads start asking questions

The course moves quickly from Lumierepark onto Flevoland's flat, open polder roads. Use the early kilometres to settle position and start fuelling before wind becomes the deciding factor.

    • Start drinking before the open roads
    • Check effort before average speed
  2. 30 km70 km

    Hold the loop

Let the wind move the speed, not the effort

This course has almost no elevation to manage, so the wind across the open polder is effectively the entire bike variable. Keep the same effort whether it is helping or fighting you.

    • Ride the plan by power or perceived effort
    • Do not bank a tailwind split

A flat course still punishes a headwind spent chasing lost time

  3. 70 km94 km

    Back towards Almere

Arrive ready for a run that starts in a crowd

As the loop closes back towards the city, stop chasing speed. Finish your planned nutrition and get the legs turning over before you're racked at Lumierepark, because the run puts you straight into noise.

    • Finish the bottle you planned
    • Let cadence rise before T2

Run

Let the crowd carry you, not race for you

  1. 0 km10.55 km

    Lap 1

Find your legs before the crowd finds your pace

The run leaves Lumierepark straight into Almere's modern city centre and the green space around the Weerwater, with a crowd Challenge Family markets as making every finisher feel like a hero. Use the first lap to convert bike legs into running legs, not to bank on the atmosphere.

    • Shorten your stride out of T2
    • Take the early aid stations deliberately
  2. 10.55 km21.1 km

    Lap 2 and the decision

Only race once you've earned it

The second lap past the same lake and streets gives you a clear checkpoint on how the day is really going. If it has gone well, decide deliberately whether to push; if it hasn't, protect the finish rather than forcing it.

    • Compare lap 2 to lap 1 honestly
    • Keep the finish decision yours, not the crowd's

What I would keep an eye on

There is no useful 2027 forecast this far out. For now, past race dates give us a point of reference. Closer to the race, the forecast will tell us whether the plan needs changing.

What goes into your range

Your CSS, FTP, weight and run threshold create the first range. Open-water, bike, run and execution evidence can replace broad assumptions. Course data and the historical conditions baseline shape every simulation.

How the model works

It starts with the targets in your Race Card, then samples the parts of a 70.3 that vary: open-water pace, transitions, bike speed at the planned power, and the drop in run performance after the swim and bike. Repeating that calculation produces a likely range rather than a single heroic number.

The current time calculation uses this race’s published distances, or standard 70.3 distances where none are published, with the available course headings, elevation and exposure evidence. Weather scenarios vary temperature, dew point, wind, gusts, rain and water conditions together. Unknown route detail stays visible as uncertainty rather than false precision.

It is not predicting your exact finishing time, placing, or race-day weather. It answers a narrower question: given the plan and the information we have, what range of day is plausible, and where is the uncertainty coming from?

Confidence is not a permanent “low”. It is recalculated across four separate inputs:

  • Your evidence: consistent inputs and recent race-like swim, bike, and run results.
  • Bike setup: measured or specified aerodynamics rather than a broad prior.
  • The course: verified distance and route character, including elevation and technical sections.
  • The conditions: a current forecast is more useful than a historical comparison.

It starts low when those inputs are broad. It can become moderate or high as the evidence improves. A narrower range means better information, not a guarantee.

If Almere-Amsterdam is your race
